TODAY IS THE BIG DAY. Have you voted yet!? That seems to be the most popular question today on campus. Hillary vs. Obama in the Democratic primary. I'm really excited that Pennsylvania got so much attention in this primary seeing that the candidates are usually decided by April. I'm a bit nervous to see what's going to happen tonight but excited at the same time. I'm definitely supporting Clinton but if Obama comes out as the Democratic nominee in the end, I'll support him too!

It was pretty cool because Chelsea came last week and talked to us on Parrish Beach! Many of us have battlescars (aka sunburns) to prove it! She was just as intelligent and well-informed as her mother so I was very proud to have her here at Swat!

As for Swat life? Well we're getting down to the last two weeks of classes...ahhhh! Then it's two weeks of hardcore studying (being sad because we're leaving). Last Friday the history department hosted a field trip to Philadelphia as a part of its new cities program. It was a fun, relaxing tour of some historical sites of Philadelphia including the Water Works, Girard College ( we stood outside and admired the architecture), a mural painted during the New Deal in the Post Office and the Eastern State Penitentary. The penitentary was the most interesting part of the tour since I had never actually been inside one. Apparently these prisoners were never able to go outside except for 2-3 hours a day for exercise. They weren't supposed to communicate with other prisoners or anyone else besides perhaps the guards? Nevertheless, these prisoners still found ways to dig holes to attempt to escape, dig holes to talk to the prisoner next door, have sex and make babies, and um, a lot of other stuff. It was pretty amazing, I must say.
Also a quick note on history...I first decided to take a history class so I could get credit for my AP exams and it turns out that it wasn't just another history class. I love the discussions, the lessons learned, the interpretation of history, the social history so much that I may end up doing a minor in history. I think that's why I love college (and Swarthmore). It brings a completely different perspective to education and it seems like I'm always thinking of new ways to approach things like history that I've studied all my life! Speaking of which, I've just wasted half an hour tending to my scrabulous addiction so now it's time to go research for my lovely history paper!
